- Remember that if we are studying an English Bible, we are viewing a translation of an original text, so it could be helpful to compare to the original Greek or Hebrew when thinking about the grammar.

- You can also examine a scriptural text for rhetorical figures. An author may apply these figures in order to highlight certain concepts such as similarities, differences, cause-and-effect relationships, and patterns. They might also be used to emphasize important ideas, or to connect distinct thoughts together into a larger, cohesive thread. Below are examples of various rhetorical devices you can look for within and between sentences (with definitions borrowed from James E. Faulconer).

We can leverage various searching tools to see what commentary and interpretations modern Church leaders have given to scripture.

As we continue to dive into particularly interesting or challenging sections of scripture, it may be useful to view alternate translations. Viewing the text in another language or in another English variant can provide additional insight which may be easy to miss when reading in our standard English translations.

- In this section, I describe the methods I use to study God's words, whether in the Standard Works or in teachings from modern Church leaders. Please note that I merely sketch out many of the following strategies at very high level, and I will continue to develop them over time. Additionally, not every suggestion here must be employed in every situation, nor should the reader feel the need to follow them in strict order. But noting them here helps provide an arsenal of resources from which we can draw. To learn about my inspiration for several of these guidelines, see Learning How to Study (particularly James E.
